Alfredo or pasta tossed with cheese and butter or cream has a long history. The dish was invented by Alfredo di Lelio at his restaurant Alfredo alla Scrofa in 1914. Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, fell in love with the dish while on their honeymoon in 1927, and brought it back to the states; branches of Alfredo's restaurants in the US soon followed.
